Sind - Cultural Heritage
Sind has the proud privilege of being the first recipient of the message of Islam in South Asia. Its cultural heritage therefore depicts the tenets of Islam. Th people are simple, tolerant, hardworking and hospitable. They love poetry and music. Sindhi is the language of the vast majority of the people. It is an old language spoken with remarkable purity and grammatical accuracy. The first translation of the Holy Quran is South Asia was rendered in Sindhi during the rule of Hibbari Arabs in Mansurah (in District Sanghar). Muslim history is replete with the services of Sindhi scholars in the domain of Arabic and Persian literature particularly on theology and the life of the Holy Prophet. After independence, Sindhi literature has been enriched with new ideas taken from Urdu and other regional languages. The influence of modern European thought on Sindhi poetry and short-story is also evident. Similarly, people from all over the pre-1947 northern and north western India can be found in the Province. The result is that the flowering of a new culture is taking place which reflects a very healthy synthesis. There is a separate Culture Cell in the Provincial Education Department which gives aid to various cultural organisation for the promotion of arts, cultural and literary activities. |
