Overseas Pakistanis are Country's Envoy
ISLAMABAD: President General Pervez Musharraf has said that all overseas Pakistanis were worthy ambassadors of the country and expressed the hope that they would come forward and play a significant role for the projection of Pakistan in its true perspective amongst the international community. The President was taking to the members of the Overseas Pakistan Council, who accompanied by the Minister for Labour, Manpower and Overseas Pakistanis Omer Asghar Khan called on him in Islamabad this morning. Welcoming the delegates, the President said that when abroad all Pakistanis should display unity and remain above political and other differences. General Musharraf said that in light of his regular interaction with overseas Pakistanis, he was convinced that all expatriates were patriotic and deeply concerned about the development, progress, welfare and image of Pakistan abroad. He added that they could contribute manifold to the positive projection of the country's image and play a key role in drawing investment, increasing export of Pakistani goods and facilitate in sending of remittances from abroad through banking channels. The President assured the overseas Pakistanis of continuity and sustainability of the government's policies in the future. He informed them of the measures that have been taken to improve the working of Pakistani missions abroad and a number of incentives that the government is offering to overseas Pakistanis. The delegates thanked the President for affording them the opportunity of meeting him and discussing the various problems being faced by Pakistanis abroad. They also gave a number of suggestions. Finance Minister Shaukat Aziz, Chairman Board of Investment Waseem Haqqie and other senior government officials were also present during the call which lasted for about an hour. |
