Assemblies to stay, says Soomro

CHAKWAL: Acting President and Senate Chairman Muhammadmian Soomro here on Saturday said the democratic institutions stood restored and were functioning properly to solve the people's problems and there was no immediate threat of dissolution of assemblies.

After inaugurating Makkah Education System at Talagang, he told journalists that the opposition should behave positively to strengthen the democratic culture.

He said the no confidence motion against the National Assembly Speaker was a democratic right of the opposition, and even if the opposition wanted to bring no confidence motion against the Speaker, that too was their democratic right and such process would sure to pave the way for strong democracy.

Soomro offered himself as a mediator if the opposition was willing to come out with a positive suggestion on the Legal Framework Order and other important matters. He said the government had not closed dialogue with the opposition and the doors were open for the opposition.

The acting president was confident that the situation would improve and there would be reconciliation with the opposition.

To a question on the recognition of Israel, he said the Foreign Ministry had taken up the issue which would furnish its proposals and recommendations and then the matter would be taken at the highest level and the whole nation would be taken into confidence.

Earlier speaking at the inauguration of Makkah System of Education, Soomro said the quality education was the need of the hour and the school system in that remote area would provide opportunities to the new generation to come up and compete with the students of big cities.

The welcome address was presented by the managing director of Makkah Education System while the problems facing the area were highlighted by Professor Akbar Khan Niazi.

MNA Sardar Faiz Tamman also spoke and pointed out various problems in his constituency. He demanded the supply of Sui gas and a technical training college for Talagang

The acting president, responding to the welcome address, announced the establishment of a technical college at the place as Federal Minister for Labour and Manpower Abdul Sattar Lalikka had approved during his earlier visit to the Chakwal district.

Soomro praises the efforts of Malik Ghulam Shabbir who invested a handsome amount in that remote area for the promotion of education in the poor people.

The acting president had reached Talagang by a helicopter and was received by District Nazim Sardar Ghulam Abbas and Tehsil Nazim Malik Tariq Iqbal at the Government Degree College Talagang.

He also inspected the various departments of Makkah Education System. His wife Khudija Soomro also accompanied him. He remained here for more then two hours.

APP adds: Soomro said the government would continue its efforts to provide quality education and health facilities to people for economic uplift of the country.

Addressing a big gathering after inauguration of Makkah System of Education and Makkah Complex here, he said private educational and health institutions were sharing government's responsibilities in providing modern education and health facilities to the masses.

About health facilities, he said many diseases could be eradicated through preventive measures and by living a disciplined life.

Terming Overseas Pakistanis an asset of the society, he said they earned precious foreign exchange and sent it to the homeland for the country's development. "It's a great service to the nation if this foreign exchange is spent for setting up schools and health institutions," he added.

Referring to Makkah System of Education set up by an overseas Pakistani, he said expatriate Pakistanis should come forward and participate in similar activities.
